Actg. Addl. Director - General of Commerce
Mr. Karunatilake holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Special) Degree from the University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka. After working as an Assistant Lecturer at the same university for a short period of time, he joined the Department of Commerce of the Ministry of Industry & Commerce in 1985 in the capacity of an Assistant Director.
He also holds a Post-Graduate Diploma in International Relations & Development from the Institute of Social Studies (ISS) in The Hague, the Netherlands and a Diploma in Trade Policy from the World Trade Organization in Geneva (WTO). In addition, he has completed several training programs relating to both trade policy and promotion in a number of countries, including Ireland, South Korea and the Netherlands.
During his career, which spans over 30 years, Mr. Karunatilake has served as a commercial diplomat at Sri Lanka Missions in Baghdad, Tokyo, Manila, Paris, Washington D.C. Geneva and London. In Geneva, he served as the Sri Lankan Ambassador/Permanent Representative to the WTO.
Having returned to the island after completion of his tenure of office at the Sri Lanka High Commission in London in July 2017, he is now working as Actg. Additional Director General and Head of Bilateral Trade Division at the Department of Commerce.
