Capt. S.B.S. Lakmal is an alumnus of Asoka Vidyalaya and Royal College, Colombo, with over 25 years of expertise in the maritime industry. His career commenced in 1998 as an Officer Cadet with London Ship Management, evolving into key roles at Sri Lanka Shipping Company (2006-2010) where he served as Internal Auditor, Deputy Designated Person Ashore, and Company Security Officer.
His practical ship management expertise stems from extensive sailing tenures with London Ship Management, Seaspan Ship Management, and Thome Ship Management.
Between 2012 and 2018, he contributed to maritime education as a visiting navigational lecturer at CINEC.
From 2018 to 2019, he served as Marine Manager with ADV Marine. In 2020, he joined Seaspan's Sri Lanka office as Key Account Manager and currently holds the position of Assistant General Manager at Ceyline Shipping Ltd. In these roles, he has led global recruitment initiatives in regions such as Poland and played a pivotal role in elevating international standards among Sri Lankan seafarers through diverse training programs, specially as a Global Resource Management Trainer.
Presently Capt. Lakmal holding roles as Assistant Secretary of the Company of Master Mariners (CMM), representative for the Organization of Professionals Associations (OPA), Associate Fellow of the Nautical Institute (AFNI) UK, and Board Trustee of the National Union of Seafarers Sri Lanka (NUSS).
