Rear Admiral Shahid Ahmed SI(M), S. Bt (Retd) is the 37th Chairman of Karachi Port Trust and a distinguished maritime leader with more than 36 years of command, operational and strategic leadership experience in the Pakistan Navy, complemented by extensive experience in port management and the wider maritime sector.
A highly decorated officer, he is the recipient of the Sitara-i-Imtiaz (Military) SI(M) for distinguished and meritorious service and the Sitara-i-Basalat (S. Bt) for exceptional gallantry and distinguished conduct in service.
Rear Admiral Shahid Ahmed SI(M), S. Bt (Retd) has attended various professional courses in Pakistan and abroad. He is a graduate of the Pakistan Navy War College, NDU Washington and NDU Islamabad. He also holds Fellow Memberships of the Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport (UK) and The Nautical Institute (UK).
Prior to joining KPT, he held several key leadership roles in Pakistan’s maritime and port sectors. From 2021 to 2024, he served as Director General (Operations), Port Qasim Authority, providing strategic and operational oversight during a period of noteworthy progress. He concurrently served as Managing Director, Korangi Fisheries Harbour Authority, contributing to institutional strengthening and development. In 2025, he served as Head of the Maritime Works Organization, Bahria Foundation.
Since assuming charge of KPT, Rear Admiral Shahid Ahmed has pursued an ambitious agenda focused on operational excellence, modernization, transshipment development and regional connectivity. Under his leadership, Karachi Port achieved a historic all time cargo handling record in its 138 year history, reinforcing itself as a resilient and vital gateway for Pakistan’s international trade.
His leadership reflects a clear strategic ambition: to position KPT not only as Pakistan’s principal maritime gateway but also as a more connected, competitive and future ready hub for regional trade.
